This block looks simple, but looks can be deceiving. I don’t know why I had so much trouble with the square in the center, but I did!

I pieced the background in a traditional way, by making four squares and piecing a white triangle in one corner. Since I am using directional fabric, I fussy cut it and then pieced it so the stripes are running diagonally in two squares, and horizontally in the other two.

Then, I appliquéd the four diamonds on top.
