Today is my turn (along with three others) to post in the 2016 New Quilters Blog Hop. We are to introduce ourselves and our quilting style and let others in the blogging universe know us.
I will forgo the formal/usual introduction – I feel the best way to get to know anyone is through matters they care about!

Last week, British MP Jo Cox was murdered by being viciously beaten, stabbed and finally shot while going to a meeting with her constituents. She was 42, and a mother of two boys aged 3 and 5.
The Leeds Modern Quilt Guild is making quilts for the boys; quilts that they will be able to grow with and that might remind them that more people cared rather than hated. (the link leads you to the corresponding blog post and instructions for the block requested)
The block is very simple and can be put together in under ten minutes….here is a photo:

The Orlando Modern Quilt Guild is making quilts for the victims/survivors/families of the Orlando shooting. They hope to raise enough quilt blocks/quilts to also donate quilts to the first responders. The link to their blog post is here, and the information page the Modern Quilt Guild put together is here.
They do have a block they are suggesting, but pretty much everything goes as long as it is rainbow-y….
It feels utterly silly to me to spend a lot of time talking about myself when there are so many other a lot more pressing (and a lot more worthy) topics.
I will show you a few of my quilts – a visual introduction of myself:
The first one is titled “can we all just get along?” and depicts my (maybe naive) desire to be kind to one another and show more understanding towards each other. The second is titled “Charlie’s Tools” and is a quilt I made for BHE (Best Husband Ever). The third is called “Kimono”. All three are paper-pieced, which is my favorite construction method. “Charlie’s Tools” and “Kimono” are my original designs and are blocks that are relatively easy to make and very easy to resize (the weeping angel is a pattern by Whims and Fancies).
Die erste heisst “Can we all just get along?”
Let me thank our facilitators for putting up this blog hop again this year – it is a LOT of work and I grateful for them!

I know that the world can feel like a very cold and crazy place, Irene, but I am bolstered by the giving selflessness of wonderful people like you and the other quilters who are working to create love through fiber for those who need the reminder so much.

Thank you for your voice. All of us need to speak out against the craziness in the world…and certainly we need to talk more about the innocent victims also. But sometimes I think we should never speak the names of the people or groups who do violence at all, but instead put all the focus on the people who were murdered because by talking about the killers we are keeping their cause alive…Congratulations to your Guild for doing good in the wake of this most recent tragedy.

Oh Irene what a thoughtful post – and shows what a caring community quilters are. I just saw the #quiltsforjo yesterday and will be making some tonight. Your ‘Can we all just get along?’ quilt is stunning … and in answer, I wish we could.

I think its so nice you mentioned some charity quilt work… especially the Orlando shooting as it really hits home to us Americans 😦 The world is such a scary place anymore but there will always ALWAYS be more good than evil.
You have a wonderful blog, loved your blog hop post!

Hi Irene! We are certainly on the same wave length, as you’ll see in my Tuesday post. What helps in times like these (and there are way to many) are the caring, loving thoughtful acts by quilters like you. It’s been wonderful getting to know you better.

So many sad things happening in this world of ours. I originally posted this comment on Seven’s blog the other day – I would like to share the same sentiments here:
I get so upset by the mindless violence and pain we humans inflict on each other.
What can bring a person to a point where they hate so passionately that they want to cause such devastation to others? And, in the end, to their own family and friends as well?
There are not enough tears that can answer those questions sadly.
We can just keep showing love and caring and understanding to all those around us.
Maybe we can change the world one smile, one hug and one stitch at a time.

Hello, Irene. I think the way you’ve decided to introduce yourself during this hop by focusing on how to help others really shows us what is in your heart. Everything in the news lately is just heartbreaking – what happened here in Orlando and also the UK. I think the world would be a peaceful place if everyone were quilters.
